What is eVisa to India and what are the methods for application?

A lot if not all countries all over the world require a person to have a visa in order to enter them at their international port of entry. India is one of those places that need all of foreigners to a legal visa provided by an Indian visa issuing authority such as an Indian Mission abroad.

Travelers wishing to pay a visit to India for several purposes would have to go to their local or nearest Indian High Commission and follow the visa procedure so as to acquire their visa just before visiting.

The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) changes the way visas to India are issued

In 2014 ETA India went live with a new online system. This system allowed travelers that wished to go to India for either tourism, healthcare or business to apply for a visa over the internet. This new online visa issuing system was at first only obtainable to 40 qualified countries.

Countries that were not listed as eligible still had to go over the traditional application process through visiting their local Indian Embassy. Or applying thru different Visa issuing authorities in their country that could be quite a long process.

In April of 2015 the online visa for India was renamed to the e-Tourist Visa and August that year, another 113 nations were put into the online visa qualification checklist for entry into India.

Nearly exactly two years after the scheme became the e-Tourist Visa it was again renamed to the Indian e-Visa or just e-Visa.
